Things to do in Dublin

For a small city, Dublin certainly punches above its weight in terms of entertainment both day and night. There is so much to see and do around the city and in the surrounding countryside plus every month there is another festival or show being organised.

Dublin City

Day

One of the most popular tourist attractions in Dublin is the Guinness Storehouse. Within Dublin City, located 20 minutes drive from Castleknock Hotel, you can explore life in medieval Dublin in Dublinia & The Viking World. Immerse yourself in our Georgian history at Number Twenty Nine. Discover the story of iconic drinks at the Guinness Storehouse and the Old Jameson Distillery. Trace Dublin’s literary tradition at the Dublin Writers Museum.

Night

Dublin is famous for its tradtional nightlife and 'craic'. There are simply hundreds of bars and restaurants in a range of night life districts such as Temple Bar, Grafton Street Area and Stephens Green. You'll find a selection of genres such as traditional irish pubs, urban style bars and cosy wine bars. There are also a range of theatres and venues with internationally renowned events such as the Grand Canal Theatre and the O2 Arena.

Closer to the hotel

Even closer to the hotel is the worlds second oldest zoo and home of the 'new' African Plains Dublin Zoo, Ireland's number one visitor attraction. The zoo is located in the Phoenix Park, one of the largest city parks in the world. It is located just 5 minutes drive from the hotel. Other attractions at the park include Ashtown Castle, Aras an Uachtarain (official residence of the Irish President) and Farmleigh House, which is used to accommodate foreign dignitaries. The most high profile recent visitor was Queen Elizabeth II. During her visit in May 2011, the royal household stayed at Castleknock Hotel. The venue includes an information centre, beautiful grounds and a cosy boathouse which has been converted in to a tearoom overlooking a scenic lake.

Alternatively, you can test your Gaelic Football & Hurling skills and visit the museum celebrating the native Irish sport and its history at Croke Park, Europe's fourth largest stadium with a capacity of 84,000. If your timing is correct, you could even take in a game. Most of the more high profile matches take place during the summer months.
