While in Dublin on her world tour, Beyonce ditched the limo and opted to explore the Phoenix Park, by bike! Bicycle, Segway, Bus, Horse & Carriage or on your own two feet!- the choice is yours but make sure you take the time to explore this vast and impressive park, which is literally on the doorstep of the Castleknock Hotel! It was laid out as a royal hunting demesne in the 1660s and ever since has been one of the jewels in Dublin’s crown. In size it would comfortably contain all of London’s city parks and is over twice the size of New York’s Central Park.
Get on Your Bike!
Bicycles can be hired from Phoenix Park Bike Hire from just €5 per hour and they even offer tandems (for a romantic bicycle ride for two) and carry along trailers for the little ones. Plan your route and visit one of Europe’s most historic green spaces, there are 700 hectares to explore with a Victorian Walled Garden, visitor centre and Dublin Zoo all contained within this famous park. You can even visit Áras an Uachtaráin (Irish for 'The President's House')
Feeling Lazy- Grab a Segway!
Segway Tours of the Phoenix Park offer a unique and thrilling experience using the latest technology machines! Effortlessly glide around historic monuments, wooded pathways and green swards in one of the world’s most fascinating city parks. Tour lasts around 2 hours which includes time allowed for training, stops for questions and a chance to take tons of photographs.
Farmleigh House and Estate
Atmospheric, old world, one of Dublin’s historic houses- the perfect place to relax and enjoy a summer stroll through this beautiful estate. Sample local produce at the Summer and Christmas farmer markets or just soak up the atmosphere. Lie back, enjoy the sunshine, when the weather is good. And at Christmas time, there’s Santa, horse and carriage rides and puppet shows for the kids.
For Mum and Dad
The Christmas markets offer a welcome hot coup of mulled wine or hot chocolate to keep everyone warm and happy!
Dublin Zoo
Dublin Zoo is one of the oldest zoos in the world but has gone through an impressive metamorphosis over the last decade. The most recent addition is the Kaziranga Forest Trail, a wonderful new habitat for the zoo's breeding herd of Asian elephants.
Golf
The hotel is located within the grounds of an 18 hole golf course, making one of the closest Golf hotels to both Dublin Airport and Dublin City centre. The hotel offers great value inclusive golf packages.
